William Walter Koch was a meat salesman for Swift & Co. In 1949, he saw an opportunity to sell poultry in Europe and founded W. Walter Koch, Ltd. in New York. By the late 50s, his sons—Louis and Thomas—had joined the business and an additional office was opened in Decatur, GA to be closer to the hub of the poultry industry.
When his European business slowed, Koch introduced US poultry into Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, hopping from island to island to promote his products.
Today, Waltkoch is a fourth-generation family-owned business headquartered in Atlanta, GA, one of North America’s busiest transportation hubs, and often called “the poultry capital of the world.” The company is run by Walter B. Koch, son of Pete and grandson of W. Walter, along with two partners, S. Keith Steinberg and Sam W. Stanford.
We’re not yet the largest company in our category, but we consistently lead the way in quality and service. As we have for generations.
